Robotics is off to a great start this year. We are currently entering week 3 of the build season and everybody has been contributing to the team. Last year, we saw teams in Duluth, Minnesota that had mascots dressed up in costumes that represented their team. This year, a member of our team found a gator mascot costume that the robotics team will be using during competitions. Our team will be looking better than ever this season!
Since we are entering week 3 of a 6 week time period, things may get a little hectic. Our safety team reminds everyone about the importance of safety and safety glasses. Everyone on the team is required to wear safety glasses when working on the bot. This should be true for all teams; safety is important, especially when parts can fly off the robot and hit you. For this reason, the build team is required to wear safety glasses at all times, even when it seems safe.
The robot is looking good so far! Much progress has been made on the tote manipulators and we think we’re pretty much done wiring electronics (for a while anyways). The bot has an elevation system to lift crates and we’re thinking of implementing pneumatics to firmly hold the crates when we’re picking them up. The drive train should be pretty much ready for competition after a few more tweaks here and there. Nothing other than the chassis is “for sure” yet but we’ve made a lot of progress in the first 3 weeks of build season. For the next 3 weeks, we plan on testing the robot to see how it works and making adjustments where we see fit. Build season is not easy, but then again, it’s supposed to be challenging. You know what they say: “It’s the hardest fun you’ll ever have.”
Recycle Rush 2015 is already well underway. I hope everyone has a safe and fun build season. Good luck, teams!
